Benefits of buying locally grown food


Here are some benefits to buying locally grown food when you can.

Locally grown food is fresher, usually tastes better, helps your local economy and also supports local family farms. Buying local also helps protect your family’s health and last but not least helps to protect the environment.

Local food suppliers include farmers markets, retail stores, wineries and breweries, restaurants and of course the local farm.

Encouraging farms to continue to operate by supporting them also helps preserve our local landscape and avoid these beautiful properties being snapped up by property developers.

When you order fruits and vegetables that come from far away, they must be
transported and handled for a longer period of time. It is typical that fruits
and vegetables can be on their journey for at least 7-14 days before showing up
on your supermarket shelf. When you buy fresh, it just tastes a lot better
and you avoid quick turning fruit that you have to throw out or worse, end up
getting sick from.
